GRAY DISPLAY: Charlie Le Mindu’s move to Paris a few months ago had a profound effect on his fall-winter 2014 “Haute Coiffeur” collection. Shown in a static format on mannequins at the city’s Joyce Gallery, the Paris Hait Gris collection was just as otherworldly as Le Mindu’s previous offerings, but all in a monochrome gray.
“Everything in Paris is gray — the buildings, the people,” Le Mindu said, although his twist on the monochrome monotony of the city was anything but dull.
Several creations woven from real and synthetic hair extensions were reminiscent of tribal headdresses out of fantasy fiction, while another looked more like the yeti.
All is not static for the stylist, however. Since creating a cabaret set at the Fondation Cartier in June — scenes from which were projected onto the wall of the gallery during the presentation — Le Mindu has acquired a taste for that art. “I’m planning on opening my own cabaret at the end of the year,” he revealed.
