Paris Sets Young Designer Showcase

Christophe Girard, mayor of the 4th arrondissement, is behind the initiative.

YOUNG GUNS: Paris has a new venue for young fashion talent. Just days after being elected mayor of Paris’ 4th arrondissement, Christophe Girard, who is also head of fashion strategy at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, has revealed plans to offer up the district’s town hall as a venue for fashion shows for up-and-coming designers, starting next January.

The 4th arrondissement is home to the trendy Marais district. Girard said he hopes the venue will be used for both the couture and men’s fashion weeks in Paris, which are scheduled to run from Jan. 16 to 24.

The Chambre Syndicale is to select the designers.

“As mayor of an arrondissement that is so centrally located, I want to support young creation,” said Girard. His arrondissement will also be labeled “un arrondissement tiré à 4 épingles,” or “a district dressed up to the nines.”
