PERRIN’S HAUTE COLLAB: Perrin Paris is bringing a new spin on an old classic with its latest collaboration. The 120-year-old brand is joining forces with stylist B. Akerlund to launch a capsule collection of 12 clutches. Using Perrin’s Capitale Clutch, which incorporates a glove in front of the bag, a nod to the brand’s glove-making history, Akerlund collaborated with artists to create the line.
“I thought of the bags as a piece of art,” Akerlund told WWD. “To me, each bag should be better than the next. It’s all about a mood and a feel.”

The collection, which retails for between $1,600 and $6,000, makes use of a host of materials ranging from metallic lambskin and glitter to heavy metal studs, hologram stingray and metallic calfskin and Plexiglas.
With her show biz following, which includes Lady Gaga and Rihanna, Akerlund tapped artists whose work spoke to her, and with whom she’s worked before on photo shoots and projects.
“We basically pimped out the Capital Clutch,” Perrin creative director Sally Perrin said as she showcased a colorful clutch that had been tagged by a Los Angeles-based graffiti artist named Christopher One. Each clutch includes a plaque that credits the artist and Akerlund for the collaboration inside the bag.
The collection, which makes its debut in November on Editorialist.com, will be available in Perrin boutiques and on the brand’s Web site this fall.
