PUNK’D: Philip Treacy, milliner to rock stars, royalty and the fashion cognoscenti, has designed the 2014 Brit Awards statue. The prize-giving ceremony, which celebrates the best in British and international music, will take place on Feb. 19, 2014, and will see all of the night’s winners receive a Treacy-designed trophy.
The designer, who created the headpiece and mask that Lady Gaga wore at the 2010 awards for her moving tribute performance to the late Alexander McQueen, said that he was inspired by the “uniquely British genre of music, punk,” and that music had always been his inspiration.
Treacy has topped the all-black glossy statuette with a black and white circular hat evoking a mohawk, which tops the helmet that usually crowns the statuette.
Vivienne Westwood was the first designer invited to create a Brit Award in 2011. She was followed by artists Sir Peter Blake in 2012 and Damien Hirst in 2013.
