WOOD’S WORKS: A year after graduating from the University of Westminster in London, designer Philli Wood is launching her first capsule collection with the British high street chain Warehouse. It’s a neon-hued, trompe l’oeil print extravaganza executed across sports-inflected clothing and accessories.
Warehouse and the British Fashion Council have an ongoing, annual initiative that gives up-and-coming talents the chance to spend six months designing and producing a collection. A re-imagining of her graduate collection, the 12-piece effort is inspired by the Native American Inuits, and printed with images of cable knits in varying scales to give the illusion of knitwear.
“The original collection was really over-sized with exaggerated shapes,” said Wood, “and also more of a winter collection so I adapted it for spring summer and also for a more commercial market.”
It’s only the beginning for Wood, who has just scooped her first job: She’s off next month to work with the Max Mara design team in Italy.
