LIM IN THE FAR EAST: On Saturday, Phillip Lim took over the historic DongBianMen Watchtower in Beijing’s Forbidden City for his first fashion show in the Far East. A local school choir kicked off the runway events, which showcased his spring lineup, seen earlier in New York, as well as an exclusive finale of five reconstructed Chinese traditional cheongsams. Front-row guests included actor Geng Le, actress Gong Beibi, former soccer player Hidetoshi Nakata and members of the Beijing band SuperVC.
GUCCI GUCCI GOO: A Gucci campaign for its new children’s fashion line featuring Jennifer Lopez and her twin tots, Max and Emme, is set to break this week, according to sources. The campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in Malibu, Calif., this past July. The images feature a sun-kissed Lopez and her two-year-old twins decked out in Gucci clothes and accessories, including sunglasses, romping on the beach. In connection with the Lopez campaign, Gucci will make charitable donations to UNICEF and the Maribel Foundation, a charity founded by Lopez, and her sister, Lynda, added sources. The organization is focused on health care for children and mothers around the world, including advanced telemedicine clinics that bring pediatric expertise to remote areas. A spokeswoman for Gucci declined to comment.
ROYAL BLUE: Genetic Denim has partnered with Princess Madeleine of Sweden to raise funds for the World Childhood Foundation with two styles of jeans, dubbed The Maria’s, that will be in stores in January. “I think it’s an opportunity for us to reach out to a younger generation and have them start thinking about how you can give back,” said Princess Madeleine at a reception to launch the project at the Michelle Rosenfeld Gallery in New York on Wednesday. “By buying a pair of these jeans it will help the foundation’s work.” The organization was founded by Princess Madeleine’s mother, Queen Silvia of Sweden, and aids mostly girls and young mothers living in poverty and victims of sexual abuse. For every pair of the specially designed jeans sold — two washes in a slim, bell-bottom fit personally chosen by the princess — Genetic Denim will donate $50 to the foundation, said Ali Fatourechi, founder and creative director of the Los Angeles-based brand.
BACK IN BLACK: Designer Nicole Miller, flying into Chicago one week after presenting her collection at New Zealand Fashion Week, knows one thing about her Windy City clientele. “They like a lot of black,” said Miller, who hosted cocktails for customers at her North Wells Street store last Wednesday, donating a portion of sales to the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls. When it comes to gala dressing, Chicagoans “wear a lot less color than in New York, but it’s more avant-garde,” she said, noting that Comme des Garcons sells well in the city. “They’re not wearing a little black dress. They’re wearing something black and cool.”
Miller should know. In a tally of popular partygoers, New York magazine recently named her one of the most photographed faces of 2010. Miller, who was listed at number 13, was amused that Fern Mallis edged out Anna Wintour for the number-one slot. Still, Miller admits there may be parties she has yet to attend. “There were some people [on the list] I didn’t know.”
