The Space Age designer has been awarded the Russian Order of Friendship.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE: Pierre Cardin has been awarded the Russian Order of Friendship in recognition of his contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Russia and France.

The designer received the award from Ambassador Alexander Orlov at a ceremony last week at the Russian embassy in Paris.

The Space Age designer launched his first Russian venture in the Eighties and estimates he has been to Moscow over 30 times. In 2008, he was made an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts and he has frequently designed costumes for ballerina Maya Plisetskaya.

The Order of Friendship is a state decoration of the Russian Federation to reward foreign nationals whose work is aimed at improving relations with the Russian Federation and its people. Previous recipients include pianist Van Cliburn, architect Oscar Niemeyer and film director Andrzej Wajda.
