PINAULT TO CHINA: François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive officer of Gucci’s parent company PPR, is planning a four-day trip to China to support Gucci’s two principal corporate social responsibility programs established in that country through collaborations with the China Children and Teenager’s Fund and the Tsinghua University.
Gucci will host a dinner on Sept. 6 to reveal it will help establish five Amblyopia Medical Training and Treatment Centers in different cities — one each year over five years. The first center opened in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province on Aug. 8.

Gucci and CCTF started their collaboration in 2008 and the Italian luxury firm has so far donated more than RMB 12 million, or $1.87 million.
In addition, on Sept. 7, Pinault will hold a lecture for about 450 students at the Tsinghua University “sharing his personal experience and management philosophy with the aim to inspire young talents in China who are interested in pursuing their careers in the retail and luxury sectors,” said Gucci. The company started its collaboration with the Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University in 2009, providing scholarships to underprivileged students. In January, Gucci announced the establishment of a new three-year project, the “Gucci Education Fund for the Arts,” to help develop fashion and art education at the university, offering scholarships to support underprivileged students and the funding of international academic exchanges, among others.
