FASHION ON SHOW: Trade show organizer Pitti Immagine is about to sign a three-year agreement with the Florentine Center for Italian Fashion and the Gallerie degli Uffizi, which controls both the namesake museum, and Palazzo Pitti, to organize annual fashion exhibitions in Florence.
Reached by phone on Wednesday, Lapo Cianchi, Pitti Immagine’s director of special projects, told WWD that the agreement should be finalized by the end of the month and that the first exhibition will be unveiled during the next edition of Pitti Uomo in June.
Palazzo Pitti, which in the Fifties hosted the first runway shows of Italian brands in its Sala Bianca, will house the fashion exhibitions to be curated by Pitti Immagine.
Cianchi also said that Gallerie degli Uffizi is considering the possibility of transforming Palazzo Pitti’s Costume Gallery into a Costume and Fashion Gallery, open to modern and contemporary fashion creations.
Along with the annual exhibitions curated by Pitti Immagine, Palazzo Pitti might present other retrospectives aimed at showcasing its rich costume archives as well.
