PLASTIC PEOPLE: Galeria Melissa celebrated its first international flagship on Wednesday night with a slew of Brazilian models and some more local notable names. Marc Jacobs made a brief appearance at the SoHo store, which showcases a psychedelic animated video installation by Brazilian artist Eli Sudbrack. Dita Von Teese held court in the far end of the space, chatting briefly with Disney star Vanessa Hudgens. “They certainly look comfortable, don’t they?” Von Teese said of the plastic footwear. “And some have Swarovski…and some of them also smell quite good, apparently.” Sure enough, one pair of peep-toe flats designed by Jason Wu had a certain My Little Pony-esque bouquet. Lorenzo Martone, who has been consulting for Melissa Shoes for a few years, touted the “high-tech” wonders of plastic footwear: The shoes are made from recyclable PVC and available in a veritable rainbow of candy-colored shades.
