POP OVER TO STORY: The New York City Economic Development Corporation and the Chelsea-based retailer Story have launched Project Pop-Up NYC, a competition to help innovative retail and technology businesses. Participants have the chance to win a temporary pop-up store, public relations-marketing support and business mentoring. Up to three retailers will receive a monthlong space in Story’s Tenth Avenue location, starting during New York Fashion Week in September. All sales will go to each respective winner.
In addition, up to eight fashion technology companies will be given space in Story to showcase and promote their products with apps, enabling technologies and other types of software throughout September. The winners will receive a variety of other business services.
Norma Kamali, Lucky magazine’s Brandon Holley, publicist Vanessa von Bismarck, Bonobos’ Andy Dunn and High Line Venture Partners’ Shana Fisher will judge the competition.
Contenders must be New York-based companies that have been in business for at least a year and they must have annual sales of $25,000 or more. Applications are due by July 30.
