PRADA IN OSAKA: Prada opened its first freestanding store in the Western Japanese city of Osaka on Monday. Designed by Roberto Baciocchi, the store consists of 16,145 square feet spread over five levels. It carries the brand’s men’s and women’s ready-to-wear lines, as well as leather goods, shoes and accessories.
The outer storefront is designed to pay tribute to French-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, with backlit panels of gold-colored aluminum and polished steel. Inside the store, a series of openings in the ceiling works to connect the different levels and leads to a skylight in the rooftop. Each floor is designed with a different atmosphere, and materials used in the store’s interior include polished steel and crystal fixtures, green fabric wall coverings, ostrich leather sofas and black-and-white checkered marble floors.
