Brian Boyle knows a thing or two about negotiating his way through an aggressive crowd, like the hoards jostling for position at New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. The New York Rangers center said using elbows and shoulders works wonders. Boyle was the guest of American Express in its skybox overlooking the runway Monday night, where he took in the Perry Ellis men’s shows along with his goalie, Chad Johnson, and New York Knicks rookies Landry Fields and Andy Rautins. For the hockey players, this was their first fashion show and they welcomed the education. “I don’t think I have good style,” said Boyle. “But I have to try and keep up because I don’t want to look stupid.”
Johnson said he, too, needed some style pointers. “I just bought this suit today,” he said, pointing to his Hugo Boss duds. They both agreed it would take some doing, however, to keep up with Sean Avery and Henrik Lundqvist, who are inarguably the style setters on the team.
