Tommy Bahama Postpones Party for N.Y. Flagship

The decision to open the retail store on Nov. 17 is still being determined.

RELAXATION MUST WAIT: Tommy Bahama, which is getting ready to unveil its New York flagship at 551 Fifth Avenue at 45th Street, has canceled its private opening party on Nov. 15. The decision to open the retail store on Nov. 17 is still being determined.

“Being synonymous with relaxation, Tommy Bahama understands that even the greatest city in the world needs a little time to herself right now — a bit more than the famed ‘New York Minute,’” said the company. Out of respect to the Tristate area, New York City and its residents, the company said it decided to postpone the party.

Tommy Bahama’s 8,509-square-foot store — which will reflect the upscale island lifestyle — will have three levels and a restaurant. The company hopes to reschedule the event after the city recovers from Hurricane Sandy. Tommy Bahama plans to make a donation to the American Red Cross, the Food Bank for New York City and Citymeals-on-Wheels.
