Saks’ Former CEO Launching Walin & Wolff

Christina Johnson is opening a store for women’s shoes, accessories and handbags.

RETURN ENGAGEMENT: Christina Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Saks Fifth Avenue from 2000 to 2003, is back in business. She’s launching Walin & Wolff, a store for women’s shoes, accessories and handbags, and is teaming with Kim Walin, a former partner at Ducane Capital and ex-retail analyst, in the venture. “I really believe there is a place for branded designer goods in these local affluent communities where consumers live and like to shop too,” Johnson said.

The first Walin & Wolff store is scheduled to open March 8 in New Canaan, Conn. “We believe there is a 10- to 15-store opportunity over time,” said Johnson, who noted that Wolff is her maiden name. Johnson considers her new retail concept an alternative to shopping Manhattan, or major upscale malls, for the level of goods that she will be selling.
