HIGHS AND LOWS:” The future will be about design at every price point, everywhere in the world,” Roland Mouret declared at a dinner in London to mark his collection for Banana Republic, slated to hit shop floors Aug. 7.
The designer, who hosted a dinner with the American brand at the Mayfair restaurant 34 on Monday night, described his work for Banana as “effortless,” and that designing for the label was a big learning curve. “We worked together on fabric and body shape, and I used the silhouette of the female form for the clothes.”
Mouret worked with the retailer’s bi-stretch Sloan cotton fabric for the collection, which includes body-hugging dresses, trousers, and tops with delicate lace sleeves.
He said that working at such a different price point from his signature rtw collection was thought-provoking to say the least: “You have to ask yourself ‘What is the quality of inexpensive clothes? What can the quality be? And how can you bring that quality to the high street?'” he mused.
