VALLEY OF THE DOLLS: Some designers wait years to dress Barbie, but not Sadie Williams. The 26-year-old Central Saint Martins’ graduate has designed special-edition dresses for five Barbie dolls based on her adult collection of minidresses and sweatshirts for Selfridges.
“I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, and at the same time I love dressing up,” said the designer, “so I wanted to create a Barbie gang of ultra princess-y tomboys.” Williams’ Barbie gang has also been brought to life via a stop-frame animation created with her fashion filmmaker brother, Joe Conrad Williams.
Williams featured as one of Selfridges Bright Young Things, an initiative last year showcasing emerging creative talent in its Oxford Street windows. She has worked with Katie Hillier since she was 18, and has helped develop prints and color ways for the Marc by Marc Jacobs and JW Anderson labels.
The Barbie dolls launched Friday at Selfridges’ toy shop and are priced at 120 pounds, or $200 at current exchange.
