SAIL AWAY: The projects between Louis Vuitton and Frank Gehry keep multiplying. The French luxury goods firm tapped the Pritzker Prize-winning architect to conceive windows to accompany the arrival of its fall collections, including the first women’s wear range designed by Nicolas Ghesquière. Making their debut next month, product displays are backed by curved metal panels resembling sails, echoing Gehry’s building designs, including the new Fondation Louis Vuitton, slated to open in late October after hosting Vuitton’s spring fashion show. Gehry dubbed his design elements “wind wings.”
Gehry also designed a handbag for Vuitton that is to go on sale in mid-October. Rendered in its monogram canvas, Gehry’s off-kilter design is part of Vuitton’s “Icon and the Iconoclasts” project, which also involves designs by Cindy Sherman, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and Marc Newson.
