SAILOR MAN: Bloomingdale’s, which recently opened a Magnolia Cafe cupcake outpost, may be adding a spinach bar next. For fall, the store has collaborated with King Features Syndicate and designer Darren Romanelli on a limited edition collection of men’s and boys’ wear based on the spinach-gulping sailor, Popeye, as well as the soldier Beetle Bailey. The Americana and military-themed collection made its debut this week in 34 stores and online, and the merchandise will be featured at special boutiques in stores through Jan. 31. The collection, which includes Converse shoes, Medicom collectible toys, jackets, sweaters, pants, T-shirts and bags, retailing from $26 to $1,785, will also be showcased during the store’s annual “New York Nights” events that will take place Wednesday at 12 store locations around the country. And for the first time, Bloomingdale’s will open a pop-up store for the merchandise at the New York Comic Con, a pop culture convention at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from Thursday through Monday.
