BAGGING A BIRKIN: Saks Off Fifth opened its newest location in Stamford, Ct., on Thursday with a big prize in its inventory: a $16,000 vintage Hermès Birkin bag. The large, dark gray Birkin with matte silver-tone hardware was spotted by a source on Friday, and on Monday a store associate said the bag had already been sold.

The Birkin was displayed in a glass vitrine of “Designer Vintage Accessories” alongside pieces from Fendi, Gucci and Bottega Veneta. A sign perched on the case informed customers: “Please note that this is a previously owned item: Imperfections are a unique aspect of vintage product.”

Saks Off Fifth’s new 56,259-square-foot Stamford unit is located in the Stamford Town Center mall — in a space previously occupied by Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks closed its Stamford location in 2013, but continues to operate a store in the neighboring town of Greenwich.
