BOOKISH: No cryptic concept here. To celebrate its new book “Maison Martin Margiela” by Maison Martin Margiela, published by Rizzoli, the house, or at its least lab coat-wearing p.r.s, decamped to New York last Thursday and set up Café Select in SoHo like a library. White hoofed footprints on the floor led through the kitchen to a spare installation space furnished with white desks, lamps and chairs, and wallpapered with a black-and-white photo print of stacks — quiet and low-key, just like the party going on up front. Among the small group of editors and arty types were Terence Koh, Terry Richardson — one of the book’s many contributors — and Margiela fanboy Michael Stipe, who’s been a follower since the Eighties, “before they even did men’s wear,” he said.
EBAY’S HOLIDAY SPOT: EBay will open its first holiday store, a 5,500-square-foot pop-up at 3 West 57th Street operating Nov. 20 to 29, except Thanksgiving Day, and stocked with a selection of Norma Kamali’s exclusive fashions for eBay, L.A.M.B shoes, handbags from Michael Kors and Dooney & Burke, Anthropologie dresses, cosmetics from M.A.C., Smashbox and other brands, and the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue and Vera Wang Princess fragrances. Electronics, toys, home and garden items will also be displayed, but shoppers will have access to the entire eBay marketplace via Internet kiosks, handheld tablets and the eBay mobile phone application. EBay will trumpet the shop with a cocktail party Nov. 19 and on Black Friday, a limited quantity of “daily deal” items will be awarded to the first 100 shoppers who visit the store. Dollars spent in the holiday shop, up to $200,000, will be matched by eBay to support Global Giving, Grammy in the Schools, Oxfam America, Right to Play, Save the Children, Share Our Strength, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Starlight, Toys for Tots, U.S. Fund for UNICEF and YouthAIDS EBay.

PEP TALK: “I love the dolly bird vibe — anything with a heel and an ankle strap is just me,” said Tamara Beckwith at the launch of the 72-hour pop-up shop for Jimmy Choo’s Project PEP at Seldfridges on Thursday night. Ritchie’s mind, however, was miles away from the fried fish and fund-raising. “I’m all about the films at the moment, and I have Sherlock Holmes out in December,” he said.
JEFFREY SEBELIA’S NEW PROJECT: “Project Runway” winner Jeffrey Sebelia is injecting his rocker’s edge into Fluxus as the Los Angeles-based casualwear label’s new head designer. Sebelia, who scowled on millions of TVs during the reality program’s third season before winning with his zipper-edged rockerwear, revamped Fluxus’ lineup for spring with special wax treatments, sheer Modal and black stripe burnout. With retail prices between $66 and $300, Fluxus operates two stores in Los Angeles and also sells at retailers such as Atrium, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Revolve.
PIN UP: Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright made a stop at the St. John store in Beverly Hills on Wednesday afternoon to discuss her recent memoir, “Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box,” which was underwritten by the Orange County-based luxury knitwear label. The former Clinton cabinet member, dressed in St. John, told the guests — including St. John founder Marie Gray — a host of humorous stories about using her collection of brooches and pins in the course of diplomacy. Butterflies or balloons were deployed when she was cheerful or the outlook was bright; spiders, bees or other insects when things were dark or issues were challenging.
“To be considered stylish is a little bit of a surprise; I never thought of myself as having flair or being fashionable,” Albright said.
Among the topics Albright addressed at the signing were President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, America’s reputation in the international community, and, of all things, kissing international figures during her tenure, from French and Dutch to South Korean diplomats. “And then there’s Arafat,” she said. “Just the thought, right?”
TIME FLIES: Call it fast talking. Tag Heuer has tapped Italian automobile maker Lamborghini to create a limited edition collection of cellular phones dubbed the MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini. In homage to Lamborghini’s founding in 1963, only 1,963 phones, which boast technology taken from both Tag Heuer watches and the luxury automobile brand, will be sold at select Tag Heuer sales points and Lamborghini dealerships worldwide.
PHILIP GREEN, FOR SALE: Fans and competitors will be able to “buy” a piece of Topshop tycoon Sir Philip Green’s very big brain at an upcoming charity auction. Krug’s inaugural online Mind Share auction went live last week at Krugmindshare.com offering 60 minutes with Green, Natalie Massenet of Net-a-porter, and a host of other VIPs in exchange for money for the thinkers’ favorite charities. The three highest online bidders for each person will be invited to slug it out during a live auction at Christie’s in London on Thursday. Green said he plans to donate his proceeds to the Autism Trust.
