SCOTTISH PRIDE: The Duke of Cambridge was given the highest royal honor in Scotland on Thursday when he became a Knight of the Thistle during a service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. Prince William swore an oath before his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II to be “Loyal and true to my Sovereign Lady the Queen, and the members of this Order.” Earlier in the day crowds swarmed to the Royal Mile — the historic street in Edinburgh’s old town — to watch the prince make his way into the cathedral in his green ceremonial robes, a black velvet hat with white plumes and the Star of the Order of the Thistle. The Duchess of Cambridge, wearing a bespoke dress by one of her favorite London-based designers, Emilia Wickstead, looked on proudly. She paired the primrose dress with a cappuccino-colored hat by Whiteley, and brown suede Emmy shoes. Prince William is already a Knight of the Garter, and today’s installation sees him join an order of chivalry founded by King James VII of Scotland and James II of England in 1687.
