SEEING DOUBLE: After her under-the-radar appearance last week at Emporio Armani, which brought the house down, Tina Turner also attended the designer’s signature show on Monday — and this time it was all about Tina. A red-carpet line of camera crews welcomed the singer, who walked in to a sound track of her own performances and another round of audience applause. Elisa Sednaoui, who appears in Armani’s spring advertising campaign, posed for photos backstage with the singer, who snacked on fresh strawberries. “I love strong women and it’s important as a young woman to be able to observe them and watch how they behave, so you can learn,” Sednaoui said of Turner. “And my great aunt always said she had the most amazing legs.”
Meanwhile, Tatiana Blatnik, who last summer married Prince Nikolaos of Greece, son of ex-King Constantine II, said that married life allows her to be “more relaxed” but that she will continue to work with Diane von Furstenberg, for whom she has planned events in the past. “Hopefully, I’ll always be part of the DVF family,” said Blatnik.
WORN THIS WAY: Wednesday’s Mugler show in Paris, the women’s wear debut for the French label’s new creative director Nicola Formichetti, will be sure to attract oodles of eyes — and ears — via the Web. A new track by Lady Gaga, official music director of the show, will accompany the runway spectacle, while six roving cameras will provide a warts-and-all view of backstage preparations 30 minutes before as a live stream on Mugler’s Facebook page. And will pop music’s zaniest dresser be present? “I don’t want to say,” Formichetti demurred. “That’s a surprise.”
FIT FOR A QUEEN: Bette Midler’s new Broadway show “Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical” has a leg-up on the competition thanks to some enviable product placement. Manolo Blahnik unveiled a silver patent leather Mary Jane heel, which was inspired by the musical, at the show’s first preview Monday. Will Swenson, Tony Sheldon and Nick Adams star as three drag queens traipsing across the Australian outback with a giant 15-foot-high Manolo Blahnik stiletto on the top of their bus. The traditionally sized heel will be sold at the Manolo Blahnik flagship, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the shoes and a specially designed silver necklace will benefit Midler’s charity the New York Restoration Project. “If there are three things I love it is shoes, drag queens and live theater,” said Midler.
BACK TO WORK: Michael Angel has tapped his good friend Christy Turlington Burns to be the face of his new look book. “Christy has always represented everything the MA women is,” said Angel, whose fall collection is inspired by workwear. “She is intelligent, timeless, and has a witty sense of humor. This season we kept the whole process very simple and without fuss.”
