RETAIL THEATRE: Selfridges has teamed with Everyman Cinemas, the British boutique company, to open a screening room at its London flagship. Housed on the basement, the 3,500 square-foot space, which opens today, has 60 seats and is to show national movie releases as well as a selection of classic films.
The screening room’s decor reflects Everyman’s retro-chic style with leather, bouclé and fabric sofas, and features Sony 4K technology and Dolby integrated sound. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” is the first film to hit the screen, while fashion-related classics such as “Annie Hall,” “Clueless,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “The September Issue” and “Zoolander” are also in the lineup in the coming weeks.
The cinema is to remain open for at least the next six months, according to Selfridges, and moviegoers will also be able to choose from a menu that includes sweet and savory snacks. There is also a fully stocked bar.
Advanced bookings are available on the store’s Web site, and prices range from 7.50 pounds, or $12.26, for children, to 20 pounds, or $32.70, for a major evening screening. Films will be scheduled all day.
Going forward, the cinema plans to offer films around seasonal events such as Halloween and Valentine’s Day.
