SELFRIDGES WINS AGAIN: Selfridges was on Thursday named as the world’s best department store by the Intercontinental Group of Department Stores, winning the accolade for the third consecutive time.
The British department store chain, which has its flagship store on London’s Oxford Street and three stores in Manchester and Birmingham in the U.K., was named as the winner of the title at the Global Department Store Summit, a biennial event which was held in Singapore on Thursday and Friday. Selfridges will hold the title through to 2016. The British store won the award against competition from fellow finalists Macy’s in the U.S. and Breuninger in Germany. Paul Kelly, managing director of Selfridges Group commented: “This award is international recognition of the global reach of our brand.” Anne Pitcher, managing director of Selfridges, noted that the award gave the retailer “even greater impetus to continue to exceed our customers’ expectations and deliver…an unique and extraordinary shopping experience.”
