SILVER BELLES: Coco Rocha, Tamara Mellon, Jamie Tisch, Yaz Hernandez, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos and Joan Collins were among the 550 people who helped Dennis Basso and Michael Cominotto raise more than $900,000 Wednesday night for Silver Hill Hospital. When emcee Martha Stewart had to bow out at the last minute, Basso stepped up to the mic, “I do like to cook and I do like to garden, so we’ll work from that point on,” Basso said.
Cominotto, the gala’s founder who credited the New Canaan, Conn., treatment facility for saving his own life a few years ago, presented the first president’s award to Neil Sedaka. The musician then took to the piano for a five-song medley including a new one he had written for the occasion. Guests took home one of his CDs and Basso’s first fragrance — nearly 10,000 bottles of which have been sold in 70 minutes of QVC air time.
Before siting down to dinner at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York, Collins spoke of her own pursuits. She has been busy filming Fran Drescher’s TV series “Happily Divorced” and will soon be off to London to shoot the new movie “Molly Moon: The Incredible Hypnotist” with Emily Watson, Dominic Monaghan, Lesley Manville and Sadie Frost. The actress will play the head of a crime syndicate “kind of like a female godfather,” though she wasn’t about to explain how she researched the role. “That would be telling,” she said.
The actress did share a favorite story about her former “Dallas” costar Larry Hagman, who died last week. “I first met him when I was 16,” she said. “I went to see ‘South Pacific’ and he was a chorus boy. I was at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. We went to see a movie and he was terribly, terribly shy.”
