SISTER ACT: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen played the supportive big sisters at the dinner Nylon and A|X Armani Exchange hosted Wednesday for their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, who stars in the upcoming flick “Martha Marcy May Marlene.”
“I’ve seen her perform since she was a baby. She was always in plays and she’s always been super talented,” said Mary-Kate Olsen at the soon-to-open Sons of Essex, a rustic new dining spot on the Lower East Side. “I’m excited that she’s found herself and the response has been great, but more importantly that she had a good experience filming it.”
Do the sisters discuss acting tips with one another? “We’re sisters. We talk about everything,” said Mary-Kate, who just returned from Paris with Ashley, where the designing duo personally oversaw sales of The Row spring collection from a showroom there. “We’ve always done sales,” she added.
Elizabeth, who is Nylon’s October cover girl and a senior at New York University, was excited for her first big-screen lead role. “I was auditioning for everything for seven months and trying to get professional work. This script was unbelievable and the director wanted an unknown actress to play the part,” she said of “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” a dark, psychological thriller about a girl who escapes from a cult in the Catskill Mountains. “I had a lot of empathy for the character and wanted to give her a positive energy that wasn’t going to be there just on the page.”
On hand for the dinner was Nylon editor Marvin Scott Jarrett, publisher Jaclynn Jarrett, A|X Armani Exchange chief executive officer Harlan Bratcher and Xavier Samuel of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”
“I remember when Emma Stone did this cover last year and she’s had a pretty good year — so knocking on wood,” added Elizabeth.
