GET ON BOARD: L.A.-based retailer Ron Herman has collaborated with Sydney-based men’s swimwear brand Venroy on an ultra-limited (read: 20-pair) board short collection debuting at the Ron Herman flagship in Los Angeles on Thursday, with an additional 10 pairs available on Venroy’s Web site. The shorts, retailing at $250 apiece, feature a photo print of the ivy-covered walls of the Fred Segal building on Melrose Avenue which houses the flagship. In 2011, Herman became the first U.S. retailer to offer Venroy swimwear. “We wanted to create a short that was a fun celebration of the partnership,” Venroy co-designer Sean Venturi said, adding that the collection’s uber-exclusivity makes it “all the more special.” Justifying the price of the shorts is an extensive construction process that includes 12 different types of Japanese sewing machines and a specialized ink technique to ensure that the print will not fade from salt, sun, or chlorine.
