PLASTIC FANTASTIC: Kartell, the Italian design company founded in 1949, unveiled “Kartell — The Culture of Plastics” edited by Taschen this week in Milan. This monograph spans over the more than 60 years of history of “the company with two lives” — the first under the guide of its founder Giulio Castelli, and the second when Claudio Luti took over the company in 1988, adding a new twist by tapping international designers including Philippe Starck and Antonio Citterio for collaborations. The volume, which presents the plastic revolution in daily life from post-war days until today, is divided by decades and includes the preface “I Love Kartell” by Vogue Italia’s editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani and two interviews with owner and president of Kartell Claudio Luti.
