CAUSE AND EFFECT: Over 65 Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s employees toed the line at Sunday’s New York City Triathlon to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House, the preferred charity of Macy’s chief executive officer Terry Lundgren and his wife Tina, a co-captain of the event.. The retailer fielded several individuals as well as relay teams to participate in the event, which consists of just under a mile swim in the Hudson River, a 24.8-mile bike on the West Side Highway and a 6.2-mile run through Central Park. Tina Lundgren completed the race alone while her husband took on the run portion as part of a relay.
“At work, we always talk about cause marketing,” Tina Lundgren said at a brunch at The Boathouse following the race. “But this is cause exercising. It’s really exciting because everyone from the ceo to interns can participate.”
Terry Lundgren challenged each member of the Macy’s/Bloomingdale’s team to bring in one more person next year to participate in the race so even more money can be raised for the charity.
This year’s grand total hit $175,000.
