SALUTING CAMUTO: Guests at the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation’s annual benefit dinner will get a taste of The Who, thanks to a musical performance by the group’s singer Roger Daltrey.
The event on Nov. 10 at Cipriani Wall Street will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the SWCRF started by the oncologist. In addition, the SWCRF’s Vince Camuto Memorial Cancer Research Program will be introduced in honor of Vince Camuto, founder of the Camuto Group, who died last year of prostate cancer.
Louise Camuto, chief creative officer of the company that her husband started, will accept the honor in his memory. Alex DelCielo, chief executive officer of the Camuto Group, is also expected at the gala and live auction. Another well-known force in the company, Jessica Simpson, will have to sit this one out since she is in Los Angeles. The designer John Varvatos and his wife Joyce are expected.
CBS 2 News “This Morning” host Chris Wragge will serve as master of ceremonies for the fund-raiser, which is expected to attract 1,200 executives, board members and their guests. Daltrey follows in the footsteps of such performers as Ziggy Marley, Gregg Allman, Kid Rock, Steely Dan, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow and the Counting Crows.
