THINK SMALL: This morning Mayor Michael Bloomberg and American Express chairman and chief executive officer Kenneth Chenault will kick off the second annual Small Business Saturday, a campaign to encourage shopping at independent boutiques on Nov. 26, the day after Black Friday. Fifty elected officials in 30 states have pledged to spread the word in their respective communities. In Manhattan, 50 to 100 stores are on board with the effort, and a handful of yet-to-be-named celebrities will make their shopping known on Small Business Saturday. Discounts will be offered to consumers to try to help spur spending. Last year, 1.2 million Facebook users “liked” the Small Business Saturday page. Paper magazine’s Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits aim to further the cause. Extra Extra Creative, the marketing company they recently founded, is plugging the event.
