WALKER THIS WAY: “This is really a focus on the last five years, the time that I feel like I’ve been prolific,” said Tim Walker at the preview of the Mulberry-sponsored exhibition of his work at London’s Somerset House on Wednesday.
The exhibition, Story Teller, features images and films from Walker’s fantastical and whimsical repertoire and the props used to create them. His portraits include Vivienne Westwood, Alber Elbaz, Alexander McQueen and Anna Piaggi.
Walker has made no secret of his desire to direct a feature film, and he said he spent the summer reading books in search of one he might adapt. He found four: “I’m in the process of trying to negotiate the rights for four books. It’s quite a complicated process,” he said, but declined to give further details.
Among the guests who crossed the rainy courtyard at Somerset House to see the show were Kate Moss and Jamie Hince, Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Katie Grand, Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton, Birgit Kroencke, Bonnie Wright, Laura Carmichael, Emma Hill, Erdem Moralioglu and Kristen McMenamy.
McMenamy appeared in several spooky photos in the exhibition, going head-to-head with a giant spider.
“That shoot was honestly the best shoot of my life. Tim’s shoots are like nothing else,” she said.
“He gets the whole crew – hair and make-up, assistants, set designers, everyone – to stay in these haunted old country mansions together. We have a big dinner, then spend the night in the house. And they really are haunted. Strange things happen.”
