TOMMY GIRL: The Rhode Island School of Design packed the house at the Providence Convention Center Saturday for two sold-out fashion shows, which reeled in 1,550 fans. One notable guest in the crowd was Tommy Hilfiger, whose daughter Elizabeth is in the 2015 Apparel Design class. TSE’s Tina Lutz; Laird Borrelli-Pearson and Neil Gilks were among the mentors who watched the students’ final turns.
Each senior warmed up guests with a 10-second video clip they made themselves with video footage and in some cases animation, home movies or childhood photos. Some of the aspiring designers didn’t have to wonder for very long whether shoppers would like their creations. Select pieces from the show were sold Sunday at the Providence boutique Clad In (owned by alum Leslie Grant) and at RISD Market House, an on-campus academic building that became a one-day pop-up store.
