TOTAL BABE: Jessica Biel is getting ready for a busy summer, what with her being cast as Melina in the remake of “Total Recall,” which beings shooting in Toronto this week. Biel, who was in New York recently to promote Revlon’s latest Grow Luscious Plumping mascara and accompanying commercial, directed by Darren Aronofsky and featuring musician Pharrell Williams, shared her excitement about the coveted role. “It’s ripe for a remake,” she said from a sky-high apartment in The London hotel, which will have her playing opposite Colin Farrell.
The film, which reinterprets a Nineties action classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, also will star Kate Beckinsale, in the role of Lori, and is being directed by Len Wiseman. “There are two camps, some who want a remake and some who think it should be left alone,” she acknowledged. Biel is also looking forward to a possible trip to Greece this summer, a voyage she said she promised her younger brother more than a year ago as a high school graduation gift. Asked which islands she’ll visit, she said, “I don’t know. Maybe we’ll do a tour cruise of all the islands. And then go to Athens for some history.”
CFDA FLASH: With the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards just days away, the names of several of the celebrity presenters are beginning to trickle through. Naomi Watts will be on hand at Monday’s affair to present the Womenswear Designer of the Year award. Gerard Butler, meanwhile, will present the trophy to the night’s Menswear Designer of the Year winner.
As reported, Anderson Cooper will serve as the host that night, and he’ll be in the company of quite a fashion-heavy crowd. In addition to Fashion Icon Award honoree Lady Gaga, confirmed guests include honorees Marc Jacobs and Phoebe Philo, and designers such as Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, Francisco Costa, Nicole Miller, Olivier Theyskens, Vera Wang and Tracy Reese.
HAYMAN’S DAY: Fred Hayman, the retail legend behind Giorgio Beverly Hills, was feted Tuesday with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award he was instrumental in creating to mark the convergence of fashion and entertainment that Rodeo Drive exemplifies. In his honor, banners with stripes in Giorgio’s signature white and yellow were hung from lampposts on Rodeo, horns blew and confetti rained down on guests at the induction ceremony on the corner of Dayton Way and Rodeo Drive near where Giorgio Beverly Hills once stood.
Tom Blumenthal, Wanda McDaniel, Peri Ellen Berne, Barry Brucker, Gil Cates and Rose Apodaca, who wrote the biography “Fred Hayman: The Extraordinary Difference The Story of Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Glamour and the Showman Who Sold It All,” coming out this summer, spoke of Hayman’s role in shaping Rodeo Drive as a luxury mecca before he was presented the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style plaque. “It is no exaggeration to say that Rodeo Drive would be just another destination if not for” Fred Hayman, said Beverly Hills mayor Brucker. Reflecting on Giorgio, which she called “the original flagship,” McDaniel quipped, “I was a client so long my husband’s still paying the bills.”
Dressed in a dark suit, a blue-and-white striped shirt and bright yellow tie, Hayman kept his comments short and sweet. “It really is a marvelous morning for me. I never ever thought it could happen,” he said.
Hayman is the 15th recipient of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award. Past recipients include Tom Ford, Mario Testino, James Galanos, Manolo Blahnik and Giorgio Armani.
