TRANSATLANTIC LUXURY: The salons of the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Paris were the setting of the fashion week party hosted by Town & Country magazine Wednesday to honor the publication’s fashion editor at large Jade Hobson, who is making her first visit to the Paris collections in more than a decade.
“Fashion is in my blood,” said Hobson, who returned to the title just over a year ago, after spending time as a landscape architect. “It gets to you,” she explained, adding that she had enjoyed the Dries Van Noten show earlier in the day and was loving the big shapes showing on the runways for fall.
Lanvin chief executive officer Thierry Andretta and French luxury association Comité Colbert president Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes were both admiring the embassy’s gilded setting. “These private mansions are a way of capturing something of French spirit,” Ponsolle des Portes said, while Andretta described the backdrop as fitting to celebrate a magazine that epitomizes the high-end American lifestyle.
“The size of the house is intimidating when you are trying to throw a party, but it’s an amazing place,” said Town & Country editor in chief Jay Fielden, who has turned the historic title around and relaunched its online presence since arriving in the role in 2011. “We really want to make sure people know about the magazine in a place where it’s not distributed widely,” he said of the reasoning behind the event.
