EMBRACING HER DNA: Trina Turk is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her namesake label by getting back to basics.

“Twenty years has taught us to do what we do best and emphasize what our brand is about, which is basically print, color and optimism,” the designer said during a visit Tuesday to her Dallas store. “So our current mind-set is sort of to be more Trina Turk than ever.”

Turk has 11 stores and is scouting for new, bigger doors in metro Miami and Phoenix that carry all categories, like its most productive store in Palm Springs. The 5,000-square-foot complex features multiple storefronts for women’s clothing, activewear and swimwear and men’s sportswear.

Turk, who co-owns the company with backer KarpReilly LLC, said her brand does about $100 million in total retail volume. Its fastest-growing category is dresses, which includes jumpsuits and rompers.

The men’s line, which Turk noted “is for a guy who’s not afraid of color,” is also growing and wholesales to about 50 specialty stores. It’s designed by her husband, Jonathan Skow, whom she met in design school at the University of Washington. The couple has been married 30 years.
