UMA ON MARILYN: Just before 8 p.m. Monday, Uma Thurman stepped into the Chopard boutique on Madison Avenue and 63rd Street in New York to check out the brand’s Marilyn Monroe photography exhibit. The actress, who was clad in a black, belted, floor-length Maria Cornejo dress, greeted Chopard copresident and artistic director Caroline Scheufele with a friendly embrace before perusing the series of unpublished Monroe photos, which were taken by Milton Greene. “I always had the highest respect for her work,” Thurman said of Monroe. “If you’re an actor or an actress…you can see how incredible her performances were, how complete and how full and how seamless and how alive. It’s not easy.”
Perhaps she knows a thing or two about that. Fresh off giving birth to her third child in July, Thurman is in the process of reading a variety of scripts.
Dripping in Chopard diamond and pink sapphire bracelets and long, dangly diamond earrings, she wouldn’t divulge what specifically she was considering but she did say that she’s readying herself for her entrée back onto the big screen.
“I’m looking for more dramatic roles. I’ve done a lot of different things in my career. I have a very soft spot for comedy,” said the actress best known for her roles in “Kill Bill” and “Pulp Fiction.” “I’m trying to make myself steer back to my original passion for dramatic roles.”
