Uniqlo to Sponsor Wheelchair Tennis Tour

The three-year program will see Uniqlo sponsor major wheelchair tennis tournaments.

FULL COURT PRESS: Uniqlo has become the title sponsor of the International Tennis Federation’s major wheelchair tennis tournaments.

The three-year sponsorship, which will begin with the BNP Paribas Open de France wheelchair tournament in Paris on June 24, will see Uniqlo become title sponsor of the ITF Wheelchair Tennis Tour — which comprises around 160 tournaments in over 40 countries — along with its Wheelchair Doubles Masters and international sponsor of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters, held in the U.K.

Tadashi Yanai, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Fast Retailing, noted that Shingo Kunieda, Japan’s two-time Paralympic champion and the number one ranked wheelchair tennis player globally, is already a Uniqlo global brand ambassador, as are tennis champions Novak Djokovic and Japan’s Kei Nishikori.

“We wish to use the sponsorship of the Wheelchair Tennis Tour to help increase the popularity of the sport worldwide,” he said.

ITF president Francesco Ricci Bitti highlighted that wheelchair tennis is “one of the fastest growing Paralympic sports.”
