If the choice of location says anything about the event’s purpose, Monday night’s Premium Young Designers Award in Berlin’s concept store F95 highlighted the importance of a retail space to an up-and-comer’s career. For the first time, the award – now in its 10th season – was held in Premium’s own shop honoring three winners in the categories of women’s wear, men’s wear and accessories.
Dawid Tomaszewski, a contender of last season’s Designer for Tomorrow Award, impressed the jury with his women’s wear collection of layered and semitransparent fabrics, while accessories winner Arne Niehaus of Joshua convinced with a range of leather talisman jewelry. “These are mainly for spiritual guidance,” Niehaus noted.
The Milanese duo behind Tsicko gave a taster of their Nineties-inspired men’s wear collection via minimalist wool suits paired with tailored jackets. For a young label, Tsicko keeps a surprisingly keen eye on the financial side: Luca de Regibus, one half, stays out of the design process to focus on Tsicko’s business prospects.
