VIRGIN TERRITORY: Dallas may be one of the most densely retailed cities in the nation, but Michael Moldovan, co-owner of Traffic Los Angeles, figures it’s a “virgin market” for the 2,000-square-foot men’s store he’s opened downtown at The Joule hotel. That’s because he’s got exclusives on men’s wear by Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, Comme des Garçons, Jean Paul Gaultier, Moschino, Paul Smith, Rick Owens, Victor & Rolf and Vivienne Westwood. “Even when Barneys was here, they didn’t have anything like this,” Moldovan asserted. “We’re more trendy.”
The shop stocks a healthy representation of each label (“We buy collections, not pieces,” Moldovan noted), plus more obscure finds like tailored black cutaway jackets by D.Gnak by Kang.D of Seoul, Fagassent paint-splattered jeans from Tokyo, lush leather jackets by Isaac Sellam of Paris and slim suits by Sand of Denmark.

The store has affluent hipsters covered for day, play, evening and formal occasions. A few racks of women’s fashions sporting looks by Iro, Drome and Unconditional give a taste of the Traffic L.A. women’s store that’s set to open next month in the same block. In between will be Traffic’s 300-square-foot Comme des Garçons Play shop.
“We really like the people here,” said Moldovan, who runs the business with his wife, Sara. “They are very fashion-forward, and they want to get dressed like in L.A. and New York, and we’re gonna give it to them.”
