Men’s wear maverick Vivek Nagrani brought his superhero collection to Houston Tuesday for a fundraiser fashion show benefiting the Recipe for Success Foundation.
Nagrani built a company on sock and underwear collections that are anything but basic, and he’s applied that same concept to his expanding selection of men’s wear, incorporating the duality of the Dark Knight in every jacket, shirt and pant he designs.
“My whole philosophy of men is we have more than one personality. I want to bring back that superhero level of interest in dressing well. My clothing is part Bruce Wayne and part Batman,” Vivek said.
Vivek showed the versatility of his limited edition pieces during the fashion show at M PENNER, a luxury men’s store and the exclusive stockist of the VK Nagrani line in Houston.
A hunter green tuxedo jacket morphed into a more casual standalone piece when worn without the pants, and a black Italian leather jacket modeled after its classic denim counterpart is meant to be paired with jeans or trousers and a tie.
“Men need that third piece. They have the pants and shirt and they reach for a sports jacket because they don’t know what else they can wear. When I think of men’s clothing, I look at how I live,” Nagrani said.
“I want my clothing to be comfortable, easy and ahead of the crowd.”
Nagrani isn’t kidding when he says dressing well should be easy.
He’s currently shooting a pilot reality show in New York for men, covering everything from fashion to wine in three easy steps.
His aim is to take the intimidation and complication out of fashion, and replace it with simple sophistication.
There’s no word yet on when the show will air.
