CLINTON STYLE: Waris Ahluwalia, the actor and designer behind jewelry line House of Waris, was commissioned to design a pendant for the William J. Clinton Foundation’s gala dinner and live auction tonight at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The event will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Clinton Foundation as well as Bill Clinton’s 65th birthday.
Waris worked with a local goldsmith, engraver and furniture maker to produce the pendant and packaging, all handmade in New York. Comprised of 18kt gold and oxidized silver, the piece’s front is emblazoned with the words ‘Omnia Vincit Amor’ (‘love conquers all’), while the backside features the numbers ‘10 42 65’ – 10 for the 10th anniversary of the foundation, 42 for Clinton as the 42nd President, and 65 in honor of his 65th birthday.
“I envision a world where objects made by skilled craftsmen can sit alongside mass made goods, where generations of skill are still alive and desired, where a considered life is the richest one,” said the designer. “My work is to help make that possible.”
The pendant will be auctioned off tonight to benefit the foundation, which was founded by Clinton to improve global health, strengthen economies worldwide, promote healthier childhoods and protect the environment.
