WES GOES WEST: From the moment New York-based designer Wes Gordon touched down in Los Angeles on Monday, his trip was off to an extraordinary start. “I landed in L.A. and had missed calls from Steven Kolb, the chief executive of the CFDA, which is kind of a scary missed call to have. So I called him back, and he let me know,” said the Central Saint Martins graduate of the moment he learned he was a CFDA Fashion Award nominee. Gordon has been nominated for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear. “Doing runway versus presentations is further incentive to articulate who your woman is,” said Gordon, who credits his nomination in part to his decision to shift strategy to runway in the last two seasons. And with a Wes Gordon for Manolo Blahnik collaboration already to his name, Gordon doesn’t rule out the possibility of his own accessories line in the future. He added that his is a small private company and he has no plans to change that.
Holding court at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills before a personal appearance and presentation hosted by The Blonde & The Brunette blogger and NJ Goldston, ceo of branding agency The UXB, Gordon reflected on his whirlwind trip to the West Coast. A private dinner held Tuesday night on his behalf at the Hancock Park home of interior designer and stylist Estee Stanley, alongside jewelry designer (and 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner-up) Jennifer Meyer Maguire, and stylist Jamie Schneider, quickly turned into a celebration for the newly minted CFDA nominee, who feted the occasion with Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie and Molly Sims.
