Whitney Houston Auction Generates $82,025

The 13 pieces, included some she wore in “The Bodyguard.”

WHITNEY’S FASHION: A beaded Marc Bouwer bustier that once belonged to Whitney Houston fetched $18,750, making it the most expensive item of hers that was sold by Julien’s Auctions in its “Hollywood Legends” sale last weekend. Houston’s 13 pieces, which included a few pieces she wore in “The Bodyguard” generated $82,025, according to Darren Julien, president and chief executive office. The auction house acquired these items through family members and friends of the singer, who died in February, he said.

Houston first met Bower when she was working on a Diet Coke commercial. In the years that followed, the Grammy winner bought more than 500 pieces from the designer who pretty much worked exclusively for her for two years in the early Nineties. Houston, who sold more than 170 million albums in her lifetime, recruited Bouwer to make her wedding dress when she married Bobby Brown in 1992. More recently, the designer suited up Houston in a black sequined cocktail dress for last year’s Grammy after-parties.
