WINDOWS ON THE WEIRD: In the spirit of its spring women’s ad campaign, titled “Neo Modern,” Barneys New York has commissioned a series of surreal short films by Italian video artist Yuri Ancarani for its seasonal Madison Avenue window installation, which will be installed over the weekend and run for six weeks.
Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman hired Ancarani, who has collaborated with Maurizio Cattelan, to come up with the shorts, which feature a bunch of strange but amusing images, such as a face full of blinking eyeballs and a man who pops his head like a balloon, with little focus on fashion. Unlike in seasons past, where Barneys windows were virtually devoid of clothes, looks from the collections will be represented in the windows — Ancarani’s videos are just a backdrop — and in the print campaign, which was shot by Paolo Roversi in Berlin.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Barneys hosted an in-store dinner in honor of former J. Crew designer Marissa Webb’s namesake collection. Actress Anna Kendrick played cohost at the soiree despite only having met Webb in person very recently. “We were like e-mail pen pals for a while, but we didn’t get to meet in person until last night,” Kendrick said over dinner. “We didn’t start trying on clothes until like 10 because I kept taking pictures of her three dogs. She has this one pug that can’t keep his tongue in his mouth. It’s a whole situation.”
