WINEHOUSE’S DRESS AUCTIONED: The dress that the late British singer Amy Winehouse wore on the cover of her 2006 album “Back to Black” fetched 43,200 pounds, or $70,440, at an auction in London Tuesday. The printed chiffon dress by Thailand-based designer Disaya Sorakraikitikul was sold by London’s Kerry Taylor Auctions to benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which the singer’s parents set up as a charity following her death to help vulnerable young people. The dress was acquired by a museum, the Fundacion Museo De La Moda in Chile. The dress had an original estimate of between 10,000 and 20,000 pounds, or between $16,300 and $32,600.
Among the other lots that sold at the auction, entitled “Passion for Fashion,” was an Alexander McQueen beaded evening gown from the late designer’s fall 2007 collection, which sold for 78,000 pounds, or $127,000. A replica of Princess Diana’s wedding dress, made by Elizabeth and David Emanuel for Madame Tussauds, was bought for 48,000 pounds, or $78,300, by the same museum that acquired Winehouse’s dress.
