WOOL’S NIGHT: Woolmark Co. threw a dinner Wednesday night at Wallsé in New York to celebrate Narciso Rodriguez’s one-year gig as a Woolmark ambassador. “It’s been great. I’ve been working on an ad campaign [for Woolmark],” said Rodriguez. Designers and editors such as Maria Cornejo, Cindi Leive, Anne Fulenwider, Stefano Tonchi, Kristina O’Neill, Virginia Smith and Anne Slowey gathered at the party hosted by Stuart McCullough, ceo of Australian Wool Innovation, parent company of Woolmark.
McCullough, who started his career as a jackaroo on a sheep farm before moving on to business management roles, told the crowd that Woolmark is funded by farmers who provide Woolmark with a lot money, of which half goes to research and development and half to marketing. Last week he was on a farm in outback Western Australia looking at sheep. “Today I’m here at the other end of the supply chain,” said McCullough. “We’re aiming to get consumers to buy a wool suit, and not just a sweater but a wool sweater.” Otherwise, said McCullough, the farmers will come up with other land uses. McCullough said his aim to position wool next to the best designers in the world, and that’s why he’s happy to be partnering with Rodriguez.
