CARRIE STAYS FIT: In between her Storyteller concert tour and rehearsals for the Country Music Association Awards, country singer Carrie Underwood stopped in Houston last week to unveil her fall Calia collection at the new Dick’s Sporting Goods Store at Baybrook Mall.

Her collection of ath-leisure wear was born out of necessity. An avid athlete and mother to toddler Isaiah with professional hockey player husband Mike Fisher, Underwood wanted high-quality workout wear that could transition from the gym to the grocery store.

Underwood welcomed a group of social influencers to work out with her and personal trainer Eve Overland in a white tented space complete with padded faux wooden floors, fresh floral arrangements and an all-natural juice bar. The cardio and ab-intensive workout put the Calia apparel to the test while giving a glimpse of how Underwood maintains her sculpted legs.

“I normally work out for one-and-half to two hours a day. It’s the thing I do for me,” Underwood said.

She launched Calia in conjunction with Dick’s in March 2015 and said she is constantly looking for ways to improve the clothing to be functional and attractive.

“I’m always coming up with things, like I need somewhere to put my phone in my pants when I go running, so we have running pants where I can slide my phone in an adorable pocket and go,” Underwood said.

Design elements like double and multistrap bras are part of the offerings because she likes the look and feel, and she’s looking to expand shorts, as well as transitional clothing in upcoming collections.

“It’s still a new brand, but it just keeps getting better and more creative,” Underwood said. “We try to tailor these things for the busy do-it-all ladies, myself included.”
