THE BIGGER THE BETTER: Jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth has a nice problem: “I can’t keep in stock the pieces that are $50,000 and up, which is pretty amazing,” she said before Ylang 23 threw a dinner party in her honor at Oak in Dallas. “I’ve designed jewelry for 10 years and we have people who have been collecting pieces forever, and now they’re ready for the next step.”
Neuwirth’s latest works mix opals, chrysoprase, emeralds, lapis, carved turquoise and rose-cut diamonds in bold 18-karat gold necklaces, earrings and rings. “I want it to look like costume jewelry but do it ultra fine – pieces that are over the top,” she said.
Neuwirth is one of the top three resources at Ylang 23, according to co-owner Joanne Teichman. The designer visits the store regularly and even found her beloved white labradoodle, Teddy, five years ago during one of those stays. “People ask me if Teddy can model for them,” she said. “It was quite a trunk show.”
